Hi there! And welcome to my website – DavidKaufer.com.
Who is David Kaufer? I’m a huge Oregon Ducks and sports fan, husband to a beautiful woman and father to twin 18-year-old boys. Stone, one of my sons, was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder at the age of three, and has struggled most of his life with communication challenges caused by a brain/body disconnect known as apraxia. It was in September 2022 that we discovered and learned a new communications methodology that changed his – and our – lives forever.
I believe Patience, Persistence, and Passion are the three ingredients for success. I try to apply these across all aspects of my life, both personally and professionally.
We live in beautiful Edmonds, Washington (just north of Seattle) with our rescue dog Cosmo. I have had a very diverse and interesting career – right out of college, I joined one of the world’s premier PR agencies, and at 27, I launched my own PR and marketing agency. Working as the communications manager for one of the world’s greatest CEO’s (John Chambers of Cisco Systems) to experiencing the ups and downs of starting (& closing) a start-up from scratch (GreenforGood.com) has taught me a lot.
As a branding, marketing, and communications professional, I have extensive experience in major agencies, entrepreneurship, and Fortune 500 companies. My experience includes working with and for some of the world’s most smart and successful brands and organizations. Using my unique and diverse experience, I develop and manage marketing and communication programs that deliver results. I’ve built and managed teams for both start-ups and well-established organizations.
I have a reputation for motivating others and achieving strong results through creativity, collaboration, and conviction. My experience as a relationship builder provides me with the ability to cultivate, maintain, and grow critical teams, networks, and stakeholders necessary to drive organizational success.
I specialize in brand development, integrated marketing, inbound marketing, lead generation, social media, internet marketing, media relations, trend-spotting, and team development.
I’ve been interviewed for and appeared in a wide range of media including Inc. Magazine, KGW-TV (Portland), KOMO-TV and Radio (Seattle), KING-5 TV (Seattle), KPIX-TV and KGO-TV and Radio (San Francisco), San Francisco Chronicle, The Oregonian (Portland, OR), ParentMap Magazine (Seattle), Puget Sound Business Journal and the Seattle Times (among others).
And the ride is hardly over…
David's message is a revelation. Through the powerful story of his son Stone's journey, he has opened my eyes to the vast potential trapped within those who cannot speak. David imparts lessons that aren't just inspirational - they're paradigm-shifting for anyone tasked with unlocking human capability. I left his presentation with a new outlook and determination to ensure every voice gets heard.

I was profoundly heartbroken to hear the difficulties Stone and his family faced in their efforts to access their preferred method of communication within their local school. Those with communication barriers need us to meet the where they are, and build on the systems that work for them. For those who use it, Spelling to Communicate has provided access and opportunity to the world much like as AAC and ASL has for others.
Let's work together to honor diversity in communication by adding Spelling to Communicate as a valued and accepted method of communication for those who choose to its use.
